TRAINING COURSES FOR TEACHERS

The first key result of the BRIDGE project is the development and implementation of training courses for teachers, aimed at fostering mental, social, and physical well-being in schools.

During the first seminar in Reggio Emilia, project partners identified the three fundamental dimensions of well-being to be addressed in schools:

  • Mental well-being – Supporting emotional resilience and mental health strategies.
  • Social well-being – Enhancing inclusion, positive relationships, and a supportive school climate.
  • Physical well-being – Promoting movement, ergonomics, and healthy lifestyle habits.

These areas served as the foundation for the structured training programme that followed.

Online training programme

Between April and September 2024, an online training programme was conducted across three specialised tracks, designed and delivered by expert researchers from project partner organisations:

mental well-being

Led by: Municipality of Luleå

The mental well-being module aims to increase teachers’ and students’ awareness of mental health and well-being. It introduces core concepts related to mental well-being, presents key statistics, and provides research-based methods to promote mental well-being in schools. The module equips educators with practical tools to create a mentally healthy learning environment and support students’ emotional resilience.

social well-being

Led by: Luleå University of Technology

The social well-being track addresses the importance of social connections, inclusion, and positive relationships in the school environment. It provides educators with strategies to:

  • Foster a positive classroom climate
  • Promote inclusion and diversity
  • Encourage collaborative learning and peer support

physical well-being

Led by: Luleå University of Technology and University of Granada

The physical well-being track promotes daily movement and active lifestyles in schools, addressing the fact that only 20% of children meet the recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity. Encouraging active travel to school (walking or cycling) is a key strategy to support both student health and the Agenda 2030 goals.

A key focus was the SICTA project, a Swedish initiative aimed at increasing active school transportation by making walking and cycling safer and more accessible.

From Training to Impact: The Cascade Model

After completing the online training, participating teachers, the BRIDGE Ambassadors, began conducting cascade training within their schools and organisations.

Between October 2024 and February 2025, they have been sharing their knowledge and best practices, ensuring that the training reaches a broader network of educators and students.
